Ferro BC tablet is indicated for prevention and treatment of iron deficiency anaemia, megaloblastic anaemia, disturbances in absorption of iron and riboflavin deficiency. It is also indicated in pregnancy, menarche and acute or chronic blood loss.
For prevention:
Adult: 1-2 tablets daily.
For treatment:
Adult: 1-2 tablets, 2-3 times daily.
Tablet to be taken with food (except cereal, dietary fiber, tea, coffee, eggs or milk) or as recommended by the physician.
Each film-coated tablet contains:
Ferrous Fumarate B.P ... 110 mg
Folic Acid B.P ... 2 mg
Riboflavin B.P (Vit B2) ... 2 mg
Ascorbic Acid B.P (Vit C) ... 20 mg.
Ferrous Fumarate is an essential constituent of the body, being necessary for haemoglobin formation and for the oxidative process of living tissue.
Riboflavin is essential for utilization of energy from food. It acts as coenzyme in oxidation-reduction reactions. Folic acid is necessary for formation of a number of coenzymes in many metabolic systems.
Ascorbic acid is necessary for collagen formation and tissue repair involved in some oxidation-reduction reactions as well as other metabolic pathways.
Ferrous Fumarate is mainly absorbed from duodenum and jejunum. Absorption is aided by the acid secretion of stomach. Absorption is also increased in iron deficiency or fasting state. Food and achlorhydria will decrease absorption. Its excretion is from urine, sweat, sloughing of intestinal mucosa an...
Hypersensitivity to iron salts or any components of formulation, haemochromatosis, haemolytic anaemia.
Avoid in patient with peptic ulcer, enteritis, ulcerative colitis.
Avoid in patients receiving frequent blood transfusions. Avoid use in premature infants until the vitamin E stores, deficient at birth are replenished.
Gastrointestinal disturbances like stomach cramping, constipation, nausea, vomiting, dark stool, heart burn, diarrhea, staining of teeth and discoloration of urine.
Overdose may cause acute GI irritation, erosion of GI mucosa, hepatic and renal impairment, coma, hematemesis, lethargy and acidosis.
Concurrent administration of 200 mg vitamin C per 30 mg elemental iron increases absorption of oral iron. Absorption of oral preparation of iron and tetracyclines are decreased when both of these drugs are given together. Absorption of fluoroquinolones, levodopa, methyldopa, and penicillamine may be...
Concurrent administration of antacids, H2 blockers (cimetidine), or proton pump inhibitors may decrease iron absorption. Response to iron therapy may be delayed by chloramphenicol.
Store at temperature below 30ºC in cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach and sight of children.
