Cream of Magnesia is used as a mild laxative for short term treatment of symptoms of hyperacidity and occasional constipation. It is also useful where rapid bowel evacuation is required.
Adults : 6 - 8 tablets before bedtime.
Children (above 12 years) : 6 - 8 tablets before bedtime.
Children (6 - 11 years) : 3 - 4 tablets before bedtime.
Children (2 - 5 years) : 1 - 2 tablets before bedtime
or as directed by the physician.

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation; patients with colostomy or an ileostomy, intestinal obstruction, faecal impaction, renal failure and appendicitis.
Use with caution in patients with severe renal impairment, hypermagnesemia and toxicity may occur due to decreased renal clearance of absorbed magnesium. Adverse effects of magnesium hydroxide include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhoea, hypotension, respiratory depression, cardiac arrhythmias, muscle weakness, confusion and hypermagnesemia.
Magnesium hydroxide may interfere with absorption of tetracycline, digoxin, iron salts, isoniazid or quinolones when these are taken concomitantly.
